Home remedies for Skincare

We all know that a great sign of healthy skin is the ‘glow’ oozing out of your face(skin). As the skin is the most important sense organ and covers the whole body, it demands a lot of attention and care.

I will surely talk about the products I have been using for my skincare routine, in my next post. For now, as we all are locked down and have plenty of time to give attention to our skin, why not try some home remedies.

Disclaimer – The opinion expressed in my blogpost are personal suggestions, about natural remedies for skin; some sensitive skin might get some rashes and acne, so please do a patch test before applying it all on your face. If any skin reaction occurs, please discontinue using it and contact your physician. If you are under a medicated treatment, please consult your doctor before using any.

1. Milk – Raw milk or full fat milk is great for almost every skin type. It has ingredients like saturated proteins, fats, calcium and vitamin C, which will soften and moisturise your skin, and also helps in de-tanning.

How to use – Wipe your skin(face) with soft hands, everyday with milk. Use a paper-towel or a soft cloth, dip it in milk and do the magic.

2. Potatoes – Potatoes are a rich source of carbohydrates and have natural bleaching properties which protects skin from harmful UV rays. Potatoes works like wonder in removing dark spots and retaining glow to the skin.

How to use – Peel and grate a potato, squeeze out the magical juice and apply it on your face for 10 minutes. Then rinse with cold water. You can also add few drops of honey and rose water to make a paste out of it. Practice this at-least 2-3 times a week for remarkable results.

3. Banana – Bananas are rich in minerals like potassium and vitamins like A, B, C and E. They nourish the skin by providing hydration and moisture, and hence make it softer and glowy. The natural anti-oxidant properties makes the skin look fresh and also works on blemishes.

How to use – Just mash a banana (preferably ripe one) and massage your skin. Rinse with cold water after 5-7 minutes.

4. Papaya – Are you tired of dead skin cells? If yes, Papaya is your best friend. The papain enzyme and vitamin A, present in it acts as gentle exfoliator and rejuvenates the skin by removing inactive proteins/dead cells.

How to use – Either use it alone, mash the papaya and massage face and neck with pulp for 5 minutes and rinse with milk and water, or, mix the pulp with mashed banana pulp, with some cream and drops of lemon, make a paste/pack. Apply it for 20 minutes and rinse with water.

5. Turmeric (Haldi) and Chick Pea Flour – Most of us might be aware of this combo, as many of the Indian weddings are incomplete without “Haldi” ritual, which exactly is my 5th remedy. Turmeric has antiseptic and skin lightening properties. It produces collagen which improves your skin and fights toxic radicals.

How to use – Mix 1 tsp of turmeric with 4 tsp of chick pea flour. Add water/milk/rose water and make a paste. Apply it to your face and neck, let it dry completely. Finally wash with cold water.

JUGNI’s TIP – After rinsing your face with water, always tap dry it with a towel, NEVER rub it. πŸ™‚

TAKEAWAY
Using natural remedies might not have immediate results, but they surely nourish your skin. Although I recommend doing the CTTMP routine on a regular basis, adding a few home remedies can get you some fruitful results too.

Lastly, speak with your dermatologist if you are having major issues. πŸ™‚
